Stage is set for Saturday’s DIAA dual-meet wrestling state championships

DAGSBORO – With Wednesday night’s 37-28 loss to Laurel, Indian River wrestling narrowly missed out on the Henlopen South title.

The IR Indians, with the official release of the DIAA dual-meet seeding and match-ups last night, grabbed the No. 2 seed in the Division II dual-meet championship tournament.

The six-team Div. II tournament, set for Saturday, Feb. 10 at Smyrna High, features four Henlopen Conference squads: No. 1 Laurel, No. 2 IR, No. 3 Milford and No. 6 Woodbridge.

Indian River will enjoy a first-round bye and will await the lower seed of the two quarterfinal winners.

On the Division I side of things, four Henlopen Conference squads made the cut: No. 1 Smyrna, No. 3 Caesar Rodney, No. 4 Sussex Central and No. 5 Dover.

Sussex Central, under first-year head coach Shane Miller, will be looking to make it back-to-back Div. I dual-meet titles.

The Golden Knights will take on the Dover Senators in the Div. I quarterfinal round.

Quarterfinals will begin approximately 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, with the semifinals tentatively scheduled for 4 p.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
