Incoming Central freshman Alton Dennis attends 302 Elite Athletes Combine

BEAR – For the first time ever, the state of Delaware now has a middle school football combine.

Isaiah Fleming, a former Division II standout at linebacker, is the owner/director of scouting for 302 Elite Athletes.

Sunday morning at Caravel Academy, the organization held its first annual 302 Elite Athletes Middle School Combine, open to middle school players across the state.

Some of the best players from the classes of 2021, 2022 and 2023 made it out to the football field at Caravel for the event, which enjoyed a great turnout.

Fleming, coming out of Division II and from the small state of Delaware, never got a shot at the NFL. But his goal with 302 Elite Athletes is to help some of the kids get recognized and give them a shot to show off their talents.

“The goal behind this middle school combine is to bring exposure to Delaware. I’d like to bring coaches out here – from high schools and prep schools – to start recruiting kids out of Delaware,” Fleming said.

Playing his college ball at Cheyney University, Fleming recorded 144 total tackles (22.5 for a loss) in 2013 and 115 total tackles (11.5 for a loss) in 2014. He graduated in 2014, and has had a dream of starting this organization and combine for some time now. This summer, he finally made it happen.

“Every year, Delaware only produces about two, three or four Division I players, compared to other states that are racking up double-digit numbers in Division I recruits coming out of high school,” he said. “So I’m basically just trying to bring more exposure to Delaware, and help make Delaware more of a football hot bed.”

Among the event’s participants? Incoming Sussex Central High freshman defensive lineman Alton Dennis, from Millsboro, who is continuing his prep for the high school level this fall.

Heading into his freshman year at Central, Alton hopes to help the football program in any way he can.

“This summer I want to get stronger, be a good teammate and just help the team out in the best way I can,” he said.

Alton currently ranks sixth on 302 Elite Athletes’ class of 2021 player rankings.

Saturday, July 8, 302 Elite Athletes will be hosting a “Rising Freshmen” All-Star game at A.I. DuPont High School. The game will feature primarily the kids who are entering their freshman year at high school across the state of Delaware. Mr. Fleming expects there to be a few rising eighth graders on the rosters, as well.
