Basketball state tournament: Both Sussex Tech teams earn top 10 seed

Friday afternoon, the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association officially released the 2018 DIAA basketball state tournament brackets.

The boys tournament is set to begin Tuesday, Feb. 27, while the girls tournament will tip-off Wednesday, Feb. 28.

After going a combined 33-7 during the regular season, both the boys’ and girls’ Sussex Tech basketball squads made the cut and earned high seeds in the 2018 state tournament field.

On the girls side of things, the Lady Ravens (17-3) earned the No. 9 seed in the tournament and will play host to No. 24 Laurel in the first round next Wednesday.

Sussex Central (9-11) and Delmarva Christian (16-4) also made the girls’ tournament field.

Central, the No. 22 seed, will play at No. 11 St. George’s in the first round.

Delmarva Christian, the No. 17 seed, will play at No. 16 Woodbridge in the first round.

On the boys side, Sussex Tech (16-4) earned the No. 6 seed in the tournament and will enjoy a first-round bye. They’ll face the winner of the Mt. Pleasant/St. Thomas More first-round match-up.

Indian River (14-6) also made the cut, earning the No. 19 seed to set-up a first-round Henlopen South showdown with No. 14 Woodbridge. It will mark the third time the two squads face off this season.
