Annual DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star football rosters released

The DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game Committee of the Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with intellectual disABILITIES (DFRC) has announced the players selected for the 63rd Annual DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game.

The DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game showcases Delaware’s finest high school students who participate as football players, cheerleaders, band members, and school ambassadors. Rosters of both teams are listed below.

The Blue and Gold squads consist of senior players chosen from across Delaware as students of outstanding character who are also exceptional football players. The first Blue-Gold Game was played on August 25, 1956. Today more than forty-five public, private, parochial, vo-tech and charter schools across the entire state are invited to participate, helping to spread DFRC’s message of diversity, acceptance, and ABILITIES throughout their schools and communities.

Dan Ritter, Head Coach at Howard High School of Technology, will coach the Blue. Coach Ritter has selected Rashaan Mathews and Matt Rice, also from Howard, Franz Kapel from Hodgson Vo-Tech High School, Virgil Rush from Christiana High School, and Matt Carre from Thomas McKean High School to assist him for the 2018 Game.

Bill Collick, head coach at Cape Henlopen High School, will lead the Gold Squad. Collick has selected his son, Bill Collick Jr., also from Cape Henlopen High School, Shaun Strickland from Milford High School, Rudy Simonetti from Dover High School, Dwayne Henry from Seaford High School, and 2017 Division I Coach of the Year Dan Candeloro from Caesar Rodney High School as assistant coaches.

Marvin Dooley, head coach at William Penn High School, will serve as camp director, along with Preston Grace, assistant coach at Woodbridge High School, and John Wilson, head coach at St. George’s Technical High School, as the assistant camp directors. Jody Russell will serve as the DFRC Blue-Golf Athletic Committee Chair for 2018.

The 2018 DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game will be the 63rd time this annual event will take place. Proceeds from the game are used to support programs for individuals with intellectual disABILITIES throughout Delaware.

The 2018 game will be held at the University of Delaware Football Stadium on June 23.

Opening Ceremonies begin at 5:00 p.m. and kick-off is at 6:00 p.m.
