STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) teacher, Tim Elmer joins the Sussex Academy faculty.

GEORGETOWN – New STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) teach Tim Elmer joined the Sussex Academy faculty in January.

Elmer graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech.  For 19 years he was employed as a design engineer and engineering project leader developing satellite electronics for Motorola and General Electric.  One of his many career projects included working on the satellite used by Google Earth.

Following his completion of the Alternative Route for Teaching Certificate from the University of Delaware, Elmer began his teaching career in the Caesar Rodney School District.  For seven years he taught high school Engineering Technology.

Elmer will be teaching the Processes of Design and Engineering courses as part of the STEM career pathway and serve as the Technology Student Association advisor for Sussex Academy.

“Mr. Elmer has transitioned well into his new position at Sussex Academy.  His previous engineering experience as well as his STEM teaching work for the Caesar Rodney School District are welcomed assets to Sussex Academy, “ stated Allen Stafford, Director of Finance and Operations.

Mr. Elmer resides in Millsboro, Del. with his wife and their five children.

Sussex Academy is a public charter, tuition free, school centrally located in Georgetown, Delaware. Sussex Academy uses an Expeditionary Leaning approach and will be offering the International Baccalaureate Program for grades 11 and 12.   Currently serving grades 6-10, grade 11 will be added in fall 2015 and grade 12 will be added in fall 2016.  Applications are currently being accepted for grades 9-11.  No lottery will be held for the 2015-2016 school year for high school and all applicants will receive admission.  For additional information, contact Gina Derrickson at 302-856-3636 or gina.derrickson@saas.k12.de.us.
