13 STATLER files IRSD board

Current Indian River School District board of education member Dr. Heather Statler of Millsboro filed Jan. 6 with the Department of Elections for a District 3 seat in the May 2016 school board elections.

Dr. Statler, selected  last August to fill a board vacancy, is seeking the open seat for District 3, which encompasses Millsboro, Long Neck and a portion of Dagsboro.

A counselor at Delaware Technical Community College’s Stanton Campus in Newark, Dr. Statler has filled the board seat since this past August when she was selected as the candidate in a special session held by the board of education.

The seat was previously held by Nina Lou Bunting, who resigned following her state senate approved appointment to the State Board of Education last summer. Ms. Bunting had held that District 3 seat for 13 years.

Dr. Statler is seeking to complete Ms. Bunting’s term, which expires in 2018.

School board elections will be held on Tuesday, May 10.

Two Indian River board of education terms are up for election in 2016: District 2, currently held by Gerald T. Peden; and District 3, held by Leolga T. Wright.
