SELBYVILLE – Indian River School District’s paraprofessionals have a new three-year contract agreement, retroactive from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2017.

It includes salary increases of three percent for fiscal year 2015 (retroactive to July 1, 2014), eight percent for FY16 and four percent for FY17.

The contract currently affects 170 paras, although this number could increase as the district’s enrollment continues grows.

In addition, the contract outlines provisions for the Student Teaching Expense Plan (STEP) program.

Essentially, STEP assists paras in offsetting the cost of taking unpaid leaves to do student teaching.

A total of $10,000 has been set aside to be distributed to a maximum of five recipients. Currently, four paras have been accepted into the program for next year.

The agreement was officially signed at the May 18 board of education meeting by IRSD Board of Education President Charles Bireley, IRSD Superintendent Susan Bunting, Indian River Education Association President J.R. Emanuele and IREA Vice President of Paraprofessional Traci Makowski.
