Indian River band to march in 2019 National Memorial Day Parade in D.C.

Indian River High School’s marching band has been invited to represent the state of Delaware in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C. next May.

DAGSBORO – Memorial Day 2019 will be most memorable for Indian River High School and its marching band.

Invited after multiple nominations, the Indian River Marching Band will proudly be representing Delaware in the 2019 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C.

“This is a unique opportunity for our students to perform on a national stage,” said IRHS Band Director Nathan Mohler.

The 2019 parade along Constitution Avenue will commemorate a milestone in U.S. military history: the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, which began the liberation of Europe in World War II.

The Indian River Band Booster Association is launching a fundraising campaign to help cover the expenses necessary for the 120-member band to travel to Washington, D.C. and march in the parade, IRBB President Lisa Bird said.

“We will be approaching businesses, social clubs and elected officials requesting sponsorship in preparation for our appearance. We also started a GoFundMe account so that friends and family near and far can help us reach our goal,” Ms. Bird said.
