Elementary schools hosting open houses for Spanish Immersion program

SUSSEX COUNTY – John M. Clayton and East Millsboro elementary schools will host a series of open houses for their Spanish immersion programs on May 4 and May 5. Parents interested in enrolling their child in the program next year may visit these schools on either day to tour the immersion classrooms.

No appointment is necessary.

Only kindergarten students will be selected for the program in 2016-2017.

The schedule for tours is as follows:

May 4

East Millsboro Elementary – 9:00-9:30 a.m. and 9:40-10:10 a.m.

John M. Clayton Elementary – 1:30-2 p.m. and 2-2:30 p.m.

May 5

East Millsboro Elementary – 1-1:30 p.m. and 1:30-2 p.m.

John M. Clayton Elementary – 9:15-9:45 a.m. and 9:50-10:20 a.m.

The Spanish immersion program gives young learners the opportunity to acquire a second language in a developmentally-appropriate format.

Students will spend half of each school day learning in English and the other half of the day learning in Spanish.

This program offers limited slots for all students entering kindergarten in the Indian River School District in 2016-2017. Parents who are interested in having their child considered for the Spanish immersion kindergarten class must complete and submit a School Choice application by May 15.
