Bingo: IR Band Boosters’ annual fundraiser reaches 10-year milestone

MILLVILLE — Bingo!

Indian River Band Boosters’ support for music programs at Indian River High School reaches a milestone this year with the 10th annual Bingo Fundraiser.

The open-to-the-public event Saturday, March 10 at the Millville Volunteer Fire Company will feature prizes the likes of Longaberger, Vera Bradley, Thirty One and much more.

Bingo typically serves as the boosters’ largest single fundraiser.

This year’s event will feature more prizes that cater to the gentlemen gender.

“Last year when I was working, I saw how the prizes seemed to be very female-focused,” said Indian River Band Boosters president Lisa Bird. “This year we are looking for some more male-oriented prizes, not necessarily less flowering bags, but maybe more things – like Rtic cooler. We have a meat package for grilling worth about $100. We are trying to broaden the appeal.”

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Games begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

There will be door prizes, 50/50, ticket raffle and special games.

Seating can accommodate to 400 patrons, which the boosters hope to fulfill.

The IR Band boosters supplement band and music programs at IRHS.

“We basically do anything the school isn’t paying for,” said Ms. Bird. “We help support our trip, and this year the band is going to the Ohio to the Rock & Hall of Fame.” That trip to Cleveland is April 12-15.

Merchandise and cash donations greatly help in the club’s Bingo fundraiser.

“We get a lot of support from the community,” said Ms. Bird.

This year, the boosters helped in equipment purchases for IRHS’s first-ever musical production: Thoroughly Modern Millie. IRHS’s version of the 1967 musical romantic comedy takes the stage Friday and Saturday, March 16-17.
