Traffic stop leads to counterfeit charges

LAUREL – A police stop for traffic violations Sunday, Oct. 18 led to the arrest of two New York residents on charges of attempting to counterfeit jackets and watches.

According to the Laurel Police Department, Jianli Xu, 37, and Xin Wu, 39, both of Fresh Meadows, N.Y. were charged with possession of counterfeit items and conspiracy second degree.

Mr. Xu and Ms. Wu were stopped for traffic violations and further investigations revealed Mr. Xu and Ms. Wu were in possession of 112 counterfeit “North Face” jackets valued at approximately $16,800 and three “Michael Kors” watches valued at $300.  Investigations revealed Mr. Xu and Ms. Wu were en route to try and sell the items at flea markets and admitted to the items being counterfeit, according to the Laurel Police Department release.

All items were seized and verified by a “North Face & Michael Kors” business and trademark expert to be counterfeit.

Mr. Xu and Ms. Wu were released with a future court date on a $4,000 unsecured bond.
