Teen, 18, critically wounded in Laurel shooting

LAUREL – Authorities are seeking the suspect in a July 9 shooting at a Laurel apartment complex that left an 18-year-old Laurel man in critical condition.

Delaware State Police and town of Laurel police shortly before midnight responded to the 200 building in Carvel Gardens Apartments.

Police found the 18-year-old on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was initially transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, then airlifted to an area hospital in critical condition, state police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said.

Investigation revealed the shooting occurred during an altercation involving multiple subjects. Police did not have the identity of the shooter.

State police report another victim, a 22-year-old man who fled the scene, was later identified at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. He suffered hand and face lacerations and was treated and released, Cpl. Jaffe said.

State police are continuing the investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective K. Archer at 752-3791. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, via the internet at www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
