State police: Man shot responding to screams

GREENWOOD – Delaware State Police are investigating an Aug 29 shooting in which a 55-man was struck while he was responding to the screams of a woman.

Troopers in early hours of Aug. 30 responded to the 100 block of Unity Lane and were informed a man had been shot in the lower extremity sometime Aug. 29 between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., state police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe.

Investigation revealed the man was outside of his residence when he heard a female screaming near an abandoned house.  The man told troopers he found the screams to be coming from inside of a dark-colored pick-up truck parked in a driveway of an abandoned house on Unity Lane.

As the victim approached the vehicle to check on the occupants someone from inside the truck fired a single gunshot, Cpl. Jaffe said.

The man returned to his residence where he later realized he had been shot. He was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated for a single gunshot wound, Cpl. Jaffe.
