State police investigating fatal shooting near Bridgeville

BRIDGEVILLE – The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is conducting an investigation into the shooting death of a 35-year-old man south of Bridgeville.

Troopers were called to the 20000 block of Conrail Road by a 53-year-old woman resident around 12:41 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 for a report of subjects breaking into the house and shots fired, according to state police spokesman Cpl. Gary Fournier.

Troopers found a 35-year-old man in the kitchen area with a gunshot wound to the head.

Sussex County Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced the victim deceased, Cpl. Fournier said.

After shooting the man, the suspects fled the residence in an unknown direction.  The woman and three other male residents were uninjured in the incident, said Cpl. Fournier, adding the homicide investigation is in the very early stages and is on-going.  “So as to not jeopardize the investigation, no further details will be released at this time,” said Cpl. Fournier.

Anyone with information in reference to this incident is asked to contact Detective J. King at 302-698-8561.
