Seaford man dies in Rt. 13A crash

SEAFORD – A 23-year-old Seaford man died in a motor vehicle crash Wednesday night near Seaford, Delaware State Police report.

Shyheim Kellam-Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Dec. 20 on Seaford Road (Rt. 13A) just south of Easter Lane, state police spokesman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffee said.

Investigation revealed Mr. Kellam-Griffin was operating a 2003 Mercury Marauder on SR 13A when he accelerated a high rate of speed in attempting to pass a vehicle. Near the Rt. 13A and Easter Lane intersection he failed to negotiate a curve. The Mercury overturned, struck a large tree and flipped back on its wheels.

A 21-year-old Seaford man who was a passenger seated in the front seat of the Mercury  was transported by EMS to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. He was admitted with serious injuries.

Mr. Kellam-Griffin and the passenger were both wearing seat-belts, state police said.

State police investigation is continuing. It was not immediately known if impairment could be a contributing factor in this crash, Cpl. Jaffe said.
