Seaford: Father, son from New York state face drug charges

SEAFORD – A traffic stop conducted by city of Seaford police Tuesday escalated into the arrest of a father and son from New York state on drug charges after a kilo brick of heroin was discovered in the vehicle’s trunk.

Bryden Chevannes, 45, and Malik Chevannes, 21, both of Mount Vernon, NY were taken into custody during the traffic stop on Sussex Highway, Seaford Police Department spokesman Senior Cpl. Eric Chambers said.

Both face the following charges: possession of a controlled substance in Tier 5 quantity, possession with the Intent to deliver a controlled substance, conspiracy second degree, possession of a controlled substance with an aggravating factor and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police also charged Bryden Chevannes with two traffic violations.

According to Cpl. Chambers, while investigating the stop the Seaford police officer and a back-up officer smelled an odor of marijuana.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 1.5 grams of marijuana possessed by the passenger and a kilo brick of heroin – approximately 2.2 pounds – in the truck of the vehicle.

Bail at present is unknown.
