Public assistance sought in locating robbery suspects

LEWES – Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating two suspects wanted in connection with a robbery of a 67-year-old man Tuesday afternoon.

John J. Schaefer, 25, of Georgetown, and Amber L. Hoopes, 27, of Lewes are wanted on charges of robbery first degree, criminal mischief, theft of a motor vehicle, malicious interference with emergency communication and conspiracy second degree, state police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said.

Troopers responded April 10 at approximately 1:18 p.m. to a report of an assault in the 20000 block of Wil King Road.  The 67-year-old resident told troopers he had engaged in an argument with one of his tenants, Schaefer, who physically assaulted him.

While the victim was on the ground, Schaefer took his wallet, removed cash also also took the victim’s cell phone, eye glasses and keys.

Schaefer and Hoopes, who was present during this incident, fled the residence in the victim’s black Cadillac Escalade with Delaware registration 22607, according to state police.

The victim was taken to a local area hospital for treatment of his injuries.
