Parking lot suspicion : Duct-taped safe found to be safe

GEORGETOWN – A safe wrapped in duct tape found in the Veterans Administration medical clinic parking lot Wednesday morning was determined to be safe, according to the Georgetown Police Department.

The suspicious object – located in the middle of the parking lot in the rear of the Georgetown Plaza – was discovered at approximately 7:30 a.m. by a VA medical clinic employee, who contacted Georgetown police, according to Georgetown Police Department spokesman Lt. Lawrence Grose.

As a precaution, Georgetown Plaza was evacuated by Georgetown police and Capitol Police.

Delaware State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel conducted an examination and determined the object to be non-explosive, Lt. Grose said.

Georgetown Plaza was subsequently reopened.

Investigation into the package is continuing.
