New York City man jailed for possession of untaxed cigarettes

LAUREL – A New York City man was arrested Monday by Town of Laurel police on possession of more than 1,110 cartons of untaxed cigarettes during a traffic stop.

Waael Alsaeidi, 22, of East Elmhurst, N.Y., was charged with 39 counts (possession of untaxed tobacco products where tax has not been paid and the traffic violation) and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $5,000 secured bond, according to Laurel Police Department spokesman Christopher Story.

Police investigation revealed Mr. Alsaeidi was in possession of 1,184 cartons of untaxed cigarettes.

The approximate value is $70,000. The cigarettes were seized as evidence.
