Motorcyclist involved in Aug. 4 crash with DART bus dies from injuries

GEORGETOWN – A 68-year-old motorcyclist from Georgetown involved in a crash with a DART bus last Friday has died to his injuries.

James L. Barron died Monday morning at Christiana Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition following the Aug. 4 crash, Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:27 p.m. Aug. 4 as Selena Cannon, 51, of Bridgeville, was operating a 2009 DART bus and was stopped in the left-hand turn lane from southbound South Bedford Street into the DART bus yard, just north of US 113.

As Ms. Cannon crossed the northbound lanes of South Bedford Street, she pulled directly into the path a 2000 BMW motorcycle, operated by Mr. Barron, who was northbound on South Bedford Street. The front of the motorcycle struck the front of the DART bus.

Mr. Barron, who was wearing a DOT approved helmet, was ejected and struck the windshield of the bus.

Ms. Cannon was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was uninjured.  She was the only person on the bus. She was cited by troopers with failure to yield the right of way on a left-hand turn.
