Moped crash: Laurel man jailed on 7th DUI offense

LAUREL – A Laurel man was arrested and jailed Wednesday on a 7th DUI offense and other charges during Delaware State Police investigation of a moped crash.

Bruce G. Williams Jr.

Bruce G. Williams Jr., 54, was charged with 7th offense DUI after six prior offenses; driving after judgment prohibited; driving while suspended or revoked; failure to have insurance identification in possession; operation of an unregistered motor vehicle; and fictitious tags, according to state police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe.

The single-vehicle crash occurred Aug. 1 shortly after 2 p.m. on County Seat Highway east of Fire Tower Road.

Arriving troopers found Williams laying on his side with his leg trapped in his moped. While speaking with Williams, troopers detected an alcohol odor, triggering a DUI investigation, Cpl. Jaffe said.

Williams was taken to the Laurel Police Department and a computer check revealed Williams had six prior DUI convictions.

Williams was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $41,503 cash only bond, Cpl. Jaffe said.
