Millsboro woman charged with stealing money from vulnerable adult

MILLSBORO – Town of Millsboro police on Wednesday arrested a 50-year-old Millsboro woman who allegedly stole money while serving as a payee for a woman with a medical condition.

Joyetta Perry of Millsboro was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing money from the bank account of a woman with a medical condition as the woman's appointed payee.

Joyetta Perry of Millsboro was arrested Thursday by Millsboro police for allegedly stealing money from the bank account of a woman with a medical condition while serving as the woman’s appointed payee.

Joyetta Perry faces charges of pf theft over $1,500 and crime against a vulnerable adult, both felonies, according to Millsboro Police Chief John Murphy.

Ms. Perry was released on $5,000 unsecured bond.

According to Millsboro police, the woman contacted police in April to report a theft from her bank account. Investigation revealed the woman is considered a vulnerable adult due to a medical condition, which required the woman to obtain a payee for her bank account in order to Social Security checks.

Shortly after becoming the payee Ms. Perry allegedly began stealing money from the account.  During the investigation it was discovered Ms. Perry allegedly stole over $2,000 from the victim, Chief Murphy said.

Investigation also revealed that Ms. Perry may have been involved in the finances of at least one additional vulnerable adult.

Police ask that anyone with additional information regarding Ms. Perry to contact Det./Sgt. Robert Legates at 934-8174.
