Millsboro man dies in head-on crash

MILLSBORO – A 20-year-old Millsboro man died early Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on John J. Williams Highway.

Cory Burton was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred about 4:40 a.m. on John J. Williams Highway (SR 24) near Rock Pile Way, Delaware State Police spokesman Cpl. Gary Fournier said.

Investigation revealed Mr. Burton was westbound on SR 24 in a 2004 Ford mustang when his vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of an eastbound 2013 Isuzu six-wheel box truck driven by 35-year-old Justin Baldwin of Salisbury.

Mr. Baldwin swerved but could not avoid the head-on collision, Cpl. Fournier said.

Mr. Burton was not properly restrained and was partially ejected.

Mr. Baldwin was properly restrained and was uninjured in the crash.

Alcohol and drugs may have been a contributing factor on behalf of Mr. Burton, Cpl. Fournier said.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation of this incident.
