Loitering complaint leads to handgun, drugs

GEORGETOWN – Town of Georgetown police arrested a Lewes man after he was found to be loitering and in possession of a firearm and drugs.

On Aug. 30, Georgetown officers observed two males loitering in a vehicle in the parking lot of Dunbarton Oaks Apartment Complex, according to Georgetown Police Department spokesman Det. Joey Melvin.

When officers approached the vehicle, the passenger began to exit at which time officers smelled an odor of marijuana, Det. Melvin said.

During a search of the vehicle officers located a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun in the center console.

A search of the operator of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of approximately 29 grams of marijuana.

Tre Edwards, 25, was arrested for possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of marijuana and loitering. Edwards was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released on $3,300 unsecured bond.
