Lewes woman arrested for leaving child in car

LEWES – Delaware State Police arrested a 34-year-old Lewes woman July 8 after she left her 2-year-old child in a parked car.

Nicole J. Eames was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and driving under the influence of a drug after she was located in the Dollar General store on Savannah Road, state police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.

Troopers were summoned to the store to check on the welfare of a small child alone in a parked vehicle. The two people that had called 9-1-1 had already removed the little boy by the time troopers arrived.

The toddler was taken to Beebe Healthcare, treated for dehydration and released to another family member, Cpl. Fournier said.

Investigation revealed Ms. Eames had been operating her vehicle under the influence of a prescription drug and may have left the young child in the car for more than an hour, Cpl. Fournier said.

The temperature that day reached 94 degrees, Cpl. Fournier said.

Ms. Eames was released on $3,000.00 unsecured bond with a stipulation of no unsupervised contact with her son.
