Laurel man killed in motorcycle crash

LAUREL – A 51-year-old Laurel man was killed Saturday afternoon when his motorcycle crashed into a tree off Ralphs Road near Laurel.

Robert Martinson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Delaware State Police report the crash occurred at 3:47 p.m.

Investigation revealed a 2006 Harley Davidson was westbound on Ralphs Road east of Waycross Road at an apparent high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle left the roadway and entered a wooded line where it struck a maple tree, state police spokesman Sgt. Richard Bratz said.

Mr. Martinson, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected.

Speed is considered a factor in the crash. Impairment on the part of the operator was immediately unknown, Sgt. Bratz said.

Ralph’s Road in the area of the crash was closed for approximately 3 1/2 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
