Laurel man dies in crash near Delmar

DELMAR – A 37-year-old Laurel man died Monday night in a single-vehicle crash west of Delmar.

The crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Providence Church Road east of Pine Branch Road, Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.

State police on Tuesday identified the deceased as William R. Tressler. He was the only occupant of the 2004 Mini Cooper.

Investigation revealed the driver lost control of the small vehicle on a slight left curve. The car left the roadway, struck a driveway culvert and went airborne before striking a ditch embankment. The car then struck a tree with the front bumper.

Mr. Tressler was pulled from the vehicle as it became engulfed in flames. He was transported by EMS to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Cpl. Fournier said.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation
