William J. McGeehan, 42, of Laurel, was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $12,101.00 cash bond, state police spokesman Sgt. Richard Bratz said.

The arrest stemmed from police investigation of a crash on SR 24 east of Millsboro that occurred just before midnight involving a 2003 Ford Ranger driven by Mr. McGeehan and a 2015 GMC Sierra operated by Olga Kilian, 22, of Millsboro.

Investigation revealed the Ranger operated by Mr. McGeehan drifted across the center line and struck the Sierra head-on, Sgt. Bratz said.

Ms. Kilian, who was seat belted, was transported to the Beebe Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Mr. McGeehan, who was seat belted, was transported to the Beebe Medical Center. He sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was admitted.

Upon contact Mr. McGeehan exhibited signs of being under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, Sgt. Bratz said.

A DUI investigation was conducted and a computer check revealed Mr. McGeehan had seven previous DUI convictions, ranging from November 1993 through December 2004.

Along with the felony DUI offense, Mr. McGeehan was charged with vehicular assault second degree – driving under the influence negligence causes, failure to have insurance in possession and failure to remain in a single lane.
