Head-on crash claims life of Bridgeville man

BRIDGEVILLE –An 82-year-old Bridgeville man died Sunday afternoon in a head-on crash east of Bridgeville.
Ernest B. McBroom was transported at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said.

The crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. Feb. 11 on Redden Road west of Chaplains Chapel Road involving the Chevrolet Silverado driven by Mr. McBroom and a Kia Sedona driven by a 66-year-old Georgetown man.

Investigation revealed the Chevrolet Silverado crossed the center-line on a curve and struck the Kia head-on. State police speculate torrential rain may have factored in the crash.

The driver of the Kia was transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor threatening injuries.

A 12-year-old passenger in the Kia was treated at Nanticoke Memorial and released with minor injuries.

Another passenger in the Kia, age 9, was transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. She sustained no apparent injuries and was released.

Mr. McBroom was not properly restrained, Cpl. Jaffe said. All occupants of Kia were properly restrained.

Redden Road west of Chaplains Chapel Road was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation.
