Harrington man, 66, killed in crash near Milton

MILTON – Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash early Saturday that claimed the life of a 66-year-old Harrington man.

State police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said the crash was reported at 5:17 a.m. July 7 when a motorist noticed a vehicle in a field off Coastal Highway.

Preliminary investigation determined the 2001 Volvo V70 Station Wagon was northbound on Coastal Highway approaching the intersection of Truitt Road when it left the highway, struck a sign post and then collided with a standing tree in an open field.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant and was not wearing a seatbelt, Cpl. Jaffe said. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation.  Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Troop 7, Corporal A. Mitchell at 644-5020.
