Golf cart driver faces DUI charge following crash

DAGSBORO – Delaware State Police say the driver faces a DUI charge following a golf cart crash Saturday night in which two people from Pennsylvania were injured.

The incident occurred about 8:14 p.m. May 19 at the Tuckahoe Acres Camping Resort near Dagsboro, state police spokesman Master Cpl. Michael Austin said.

Investigation revealed Thomas Rivera, 47, and a 47-year-old woman, both from Lebanon, Pa., were on an EZ-Go golf cart on Tuckahoe Trail in the area of Sitting Bull Trail when Rivera lost control of the vehicle.

Both occupants were ejected onto the roadway. The woman sustained serious injuries and was flown by the Delaware State Police helicopter to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Cpl. Austin said.

Rivera sustained minor injuries and was treated at PRMC.

State police charged Rivera with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. He was released, pending a future court appearance, Cpl. Austin said.
