Florida man killed after walking into path of vehicle

MILLSBORO – Delaware State Police report a Florida man was struck and killed early Saturday morning north of Millsboro.

According to state police spokesman Cpl. Jeffrey Hale, investigation revealed Cortez L. Solomon was attempting to cross U.S. 113 when he stepped directly into the path of a 2014 Kia Optima, operated by Carol A. Farrell, 68, of Millsboro. The Optima was traveling southbound on U.S. 113 in the right hand lane.

The front right side of the vehicle struck Mr. Solomon, who was thrown into the roadway and onto the shoulder. Mr. Solomon sustained massive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at about 1:37 a.m.

Alcohol use on the part of Mr. Solomon is being considered as a factor in the crash, Cpl. Hale said.

Neither Ms. Farrell nor a male passenger in her vehicle, who were both properly restrained at the time of the crash, were injured.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit
