Fatal pedestrian crash in Laurel

LAUREL – Delaware State Police say a man from Mexico died Friday night in a pedestrian crash on U.S. 13.

Police investigation revealed the man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family, crossed the southbound lanes of U.S. 13 and ran into the side of a northbound PT Cruiser operated by Chad W. Everett, 45, of Seaford, according to state police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.

The incident occurred at 9::22 p.m. Sept. 9 near the intersection with Chipmans Lane, said Cpl. Fournier.

The man was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigation is continuing.

Alcohol may have been a factor on the part of the pedestrian who was wearing dark clothing and was not using a flashlight, Cpl. Fournier said.
