Fatal crash near Millsboro

MILLSBORO – A 65-year-old Millsboro man died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon near Millsboro.

Investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit revealed the crash occurred on Mt. Joy Road at 5:40 p.m., involving a 2011 Honda Accord driven by Ryan M. Leonardo, 42, and a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer operated by Lester L. Thompson, 65, of Millsboro, state police spokesman Cpl. Gary Fournier said.

The Accord was northbound on Mt. Joy Road near Cordrey Road when it crossed the centerline and crashed head-on with the Blazer.

Mr. Thompson, who was not properly restrained, was transported by EMS to Beebe Healthcare where he was pronounced dead, Cpl. Fournier said

Mr. Leonardo was properly restrained and taken to Beebe Healthcare where he was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation.
