Dagsboro woman killed in head-on collision

DAGSBORO – A 59-year-old Dagsboro woman died Friday afternoon in a head-on collision in Dagsboro.

Delaware State Police report the crash involving a Chevrolet Cobalt and a Volvo 12-wheel roll-off container hauler occurred at 2:05 p.m. on Dagsboro Road north of Fire Tower Road.

The Cobalt operated by the Frankford woman was southbound on Dagsboro Road when it veered into the path of the Volvo hauler. The driver of the hauler was unable to avoid the collision. The two front right sides of both collided.

The operator of the Cobalt, who was not properly secured, was pronounced deceased at the scene, said state police spokeswoman Sgt. Richard Bratz. Police have not yet released the woman’s name.

The operator of the Volvo was properly secured and transported by ambulance to a local area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Drugs or Alcohol usage is not believed to be a factor for either operator.

Dagsboro Road was closed approximately 4 ½ hours while the crash was investigated and cleared as well as due to massive debris cleanup.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Cpl. J. Burns of the Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit at 302-644-5020.
