BRIDGEVILLE – Delaware State Police arrested a Bridgeville man who police say assaulted a man with a machete.

Augustas Bailey

Augustas Bailey, 65, was charged with assault first degree, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, reckless endanger first degree and terroristic threatening, state police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said.

Bailey was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $106,000 secured bond.

The incident occurred on Saturday, July 7. At approximately 11:45 a.m., troopers were dispatched to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for a report of an assault.  Investigation revealed that a 55-year-old Bridgeville man was assaulted while he was at his friend’s residence in the 17000 block of Redden Road.

State police say Augustas Bailey entered the residence and began threatening to kill the man.  Bailey went after the victim armed with a machete.  While attempting to defend himself, the man was subsequently stuck in his right hand. He sustained a serious laceration to his right hand and was later transported to the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore, MD.

Troopers subsequently took Bailey into custody without incident at his residence in the 17000 block of Goose Bay Lane.
