Millsboro man injured in Jan. 17 crash in Long Neck dies

MILLSBORO – A 42-year-old Millsboro man injured in a Jan. 17 car crash in Long Neck has died, Delaware State Police report.

Joseph E. Deldeo Sr., succumbed to injuries Monday afternoon at Christiana Medical Center, state police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.

Mr. Deldeo was a rear-seat passenger in a 2003 Saturn Ion operated by 23-year-old Dillon Davis of Millsboro.

State police investigation revealed Mr. Davis lost control of the vehicle on Long Neck Road while attempting to negotiate a curve. The car left the roadway and struck a tree.

A 21-year-old Millsboro woman also injured in the crash was previously released from the hospital, Cpl. Fournier said.

Mr. Davis, who was not injured in the crash, was initially arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, two counts of vehicular assault first degree, possession of marijuana (3 grams), and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of secured bail.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident and additional charges may be forthcoming, Cpl. Fournier said.
