12-hour barricade situation ends with man taken into custody

LINCOLN – A 12-hour barricade situation ended Wednesday afternoon when Delaware State Police took into custody a 66-year-old man after he exited a residence on Johnson Road in Lincoln.

The man, whose identity was not released, was transported to an area hospital for evaluation, state police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.

State police at about 1:05 a.m. Wednesday morning responded to a barricaded subject possibly armed with a firearm in the 18000 block of Johnson Road.

Residents in the area were evacuated and Johnson Road between U.S. 113 and North Old State Road was closed.

Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Teams and Conflict Management Teams were called to the scene.

The barricade situation ended at approximately 1:35 p.m., Cpl. Fournier said.

Johnson Road subsequently reopened to traffic.

Detectives continue to investigate this incident and charges may be forthcoming, Cpl. Fournier said.
