Two-year-old boy dies in Lincoln house fire

LINCOLN – Delaware State Fire Marshal investigators on Friday were searching for the origin and cause of a fatal house fire Thursday morning that claimed the life of a two-year-old boy.

The blaze, reported shortly before 10 a.m., Dec. 28, occurred in the 9200 block of East Mayhew Drive off Fleatown Road.

Firefighters found flames shooting from the two-story dwelling upon arrival.

The two-year-old died inside the burning structure, Delaware Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio said.

Seven other persons were treated and released from the Milford Memorial Hospital, according to Mr. Chionchio.

The victim was transferred to the custody of the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for autopsy and positive identification.

Heavy fire damage was estimated at $250,000.

This was the 11th fire-related death in the state of Delaware for 2017 compared to nine in 2016, Mr. Chionchio said.
