Sussex County Memorial Day celebration May 29 on The Circle

GEORGETOWN – The annual Sussex County Memorial Day Service will be held on The Circle in Georgetown, May 29 at 1:30 p.m.

Co-sponsors are the Georgetown Kiwanis Club, Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary and the Korean War Veterans Association.

Memorial Day services will be held May 29 on The Circle.

The keynote speech will be delivered by retired U.S. Air Force Col. Richard Harper, a Vietnam veteran and former Dover Air Force Base Commander.

Master of Ceremonies will be Georgetown Kiwanian Martin Donovan. Colors will be presented by the Sussex Central High School Junior Army ROTC.

Invocation and benediction will be offered by Rev. Steven Uhthoff of Wesleyan Methodist Church, Georgetown.

Soloist Cathy Gorman will sing the National Anthem and lead attendees in singing God Bless America.

Memorial wreaths will be placed by local veterans’ groups and service organizations in tribute to those who died in the World Wars, Korea, Vietnam and more recent conflicts to protect America’s freedoms.

Assisting will be members of Troop 95 Boy Scouts of America.

The rifle salute will be executed by members of the 198th Signal Battalion, Delaware National Guard, stationed at the Georgetown Armory. Taps and its echo will be performed by Sussex Central High School band members.

The program will last about 45 minutes.

Seating is provided on The Circle.

Attendees are welcome to bring comfortable folding chairs.
