The historic Old Courthouse is one of six museums that will be open for free public tours Saturday, June 6 in the First Saturday in Georgetown initiative.

Doors to six museums – the Masonic Lodge, Old Georgetown Train Station, Old Sussex County Courthouse, Delaware Aviation Museum, Marvel Museum and Treasures of the Sea at Delaware Technical Community College – will be open to the public at no charge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Docents of those in similar roles will be on hand to provide tours and share information about their respective museums.

Sponsored by the newly-formed nonprofit Georgetown Nonprofit Alliance, the First Saturday in Georgetown initiative is designed to spur interest in the town and its history, and make Georgetown a destination and attraction for local residents as well as visitors.

The First Saturday event in May was hailed a huge success by organizers.

Due to July 4 falling this year on a Saturday, next month’s First Saturday will be held Saturday, July 11.

Remaining events in August and September will be held on the first Saturday.
