Clayton woman killed in two-vehicle crash near Georgetown

GEORGETOWN – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a two-vehicle crash in which a woman from Clayton was killed.

Authorities identified the deceased victim as Margaret A. Dukes, 48 , a passenger in one of two vehicles involved in the crash.

Investigation revealed the crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning as Austin W. Buckingham, 24, of Millsboro was driving a 2009 Hummer HH3 northbound on Savannah Road approaching Wilson Road.

Gary L. Levis, 50 of Bridgeville, was operating a 2006 Cadillac DTS eastbound on Wilson Road when the Hummer failed to stop at the posted stop sign and struck the passenger’s side of the Cadillac.

Both vehicles left the roadway and overturned.

Mr. Buckingham, who was properly restrained, was transported to Beebe Healthcare where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Mr. Levis, who was properly restrained, was initially transported to Beebe Healthcare before being airlifted by LifeNet to Christiana Medical Center where he was admitted in critical condition, Cpl. Fournier said..

Ms. Dukes, a passenger in the Cadillac, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was properly restrained, police said.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation and no charges have been filed at this time, Cpl. Fournier said.

Wilson Road at Savannah Road was closed for approximately four hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
