Millsboro police, DelDOT staging Community Day/Bike Rodeo this Saturday

MILLSBORO – Several hundred free bike helmets and chocolate milk for children are items in the offing this Saturday at a Community Day/Bike Rodeo event presented by the Millsboro Police Department and Delaware’s Department of Transportation.

The May 12 event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lowe’s parking lot in Peninsula Crossing.

Through generous donations from the business and civic community, Millsboro Police Chief Brian Calloway informed town council at its May 7 meeting that he was able to secure approximately 250 high-quality, adjustable helmets that will be given to young bikers at no cost.

Donations of funding include Walmart, the Georgetown/Millsboro Rotary Club, A.P. Croll, Kim Benton/State Farm Insurance and others.

Lewes Dairy, which is relocating to Millsboro, is donating free chocolate milk to children, Chief Calloway said.

“Lowe’s actually offered to have it on their property, which is great. They have an event planner that has organized getting other agencies there as well,” said Chief Calloway.

Millsboro Fire Company Station 83 is scheduled to be on hand, showcasing the company’s ladder truck.

Neighboring agencies have also been invited.

“We’re hoping that this could be a great event,” said Chief Calloway.
