Glass Onion joins the fun at IRHSAA’s Beef & Brew fundraiser

FRANKFORD – Pit beef, hot sausage, the Tribbitt family’s famous clam chowder and yummy desserts return as menu favorites for Indian River High School Alumni Association’s largest single fundraiser.

This year there’s an onion.

The Glass Onion band will provide music for dancing and enjoyment at the 2018 Beef & Brew.

Popular Delmarva band Glass Onion is booked for the IRHSAA’s 6th Annual Beef & Brew set for Saturday, April 14.

So, bring your dancing shoes, says IRHSAA president Nancy Hickman.

“They are a very good dance band. They play for all ages, all kinds of music,” said Ms. Hickman. “We were pretty excited that we could get on their schedule.”

The Frankford Volunteer Fire Company fire hall is the staging venue for the event, which features home-cooked food, live and silent auctions, 50/50 raffles, disc jockey entertainment and more.

The Beef & Brew will run from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Food will be served from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Glass Onion is scheduled to play from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Food, which includes macaroni and cheese, baked beans and other fixings, are home-made through the taste-tested culinary talents of the Tribbitt sisters, Kim Roe and Tracy Wharton, and helpers.

Drinks include beer, wine and water.

Tickets are $35 each and event organizers anticipate they will sell fast. Tickets are being printed and will soon be available from IRHSAA members or by calling 245-7454.

Back as major sponsors are WSFS Bank and Banks Wines & Spirits, with support from other businesses.

Proceeds from the Beef & Brew support the alumni association’s efforts to support IRHS students and school through scholarships and other related projects.

“This is all for scholarships. That’s our main focus … and helping any way we can,” said Ms. Hickman.

In June of 2017, the IRHSAA awarded $12,850 to college students and recent high school graduates through IR Pride Scholarships, IR Pride Scholarships for Current Alumni and a special memorial scholarship given in memory of the late Marla Banks Daisey, an IRHS Class of 1976 member and former IRHSAA president who passed away in January 2016 from ovarian cancer.

Banks Wines & Spirits and WSFS Bank return as major sponsors for the IRHSAA’s 2018 Beef & Brew.

The IRHSAA has facilitated projects for installation of new signs at the high school’s front and back entrances, along with a staff recognition program at IRHS.

The alumni association also rejuvenated the school’s annual Hall of Fame.

Auction donations are already coming in. Plans are for a special Yeti cooler package. Among the early donations: an overnight stay at a local hotel on the ocean front.

“We really do appreciate all of the help,” said Ms. Hickman.
