Generous A.C.T.S.: Ocean View thrift shop donates $50,000 for Camp Barnes

FRANKFORD – A longtime supporter of Delaware State Police and its Camp Barnes for youth has made another generous act of charity.

The Atlantic Community Thrift Shop (A.C.T.S.), located on Atlantic Avenue in Ocean View, has donated $50,000 to Camp Barnes Inc. The donation from the Atlantic Community Thrift Shop will go towards the continued renovations and general operations of the camp, said state police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe.

A.C.T.S., a thrift store operation in Ocean View, has donated $50,000 to Delaware State Police in support of Camp Barnes.

A.C.T.S. has supported the camp over the years through financial donations, and staff members volunteering at the camp.

A non-profit organization, Camp Barnes is a recreational overnight summer camp run by the Delaware State Police for which there is no fee to attend.

The camp, for boys and girls between ages of 10-13, has served the needs of thousands of children throughout Delaware.

Located on Millers Creek, a tributary of Little Assawoman Bay, Camp Barnes since 1947 has provided thousands of children from all over Delaware the opportunity to attend summer camp.

For over 60 years, Camp Barnes has remained basically unchanged.

Camp Barnes is not a camp for children with behavioral problems and juvenile delinquents.  It allows campers to develop initiative and leadership skills necessary to accomplish tasks. The camp also enables campers to increase their self-confidence and feelings of accomplishment from their efforts and achievements.

Children attend the camp at no cost to the camper or their family. The camp is in session from early June until August and accommodates approximately 60 campers per week for six weeks.
