Eastern Shore Veterans Day Parade center of attention in Laurel

LAUREL – Central Avenue in the heart of Laurel was the center of attention Sunday afternoon for the 5th Annual Eastern Shore Veterans Day Parade.

Motorcycle organizations, marching bands, school, civic and veterans’ organizations, area businesses and reigning talent/pageant winners were among the 38 entries on parade in the event sponsored by American Legion Post 19 in Laurel.

Grand Marshal for the parade was Luther W. Travers, a World War II veteran from Seaford. Mr. Travers rode in a bright red convertible alongside Miss Maryland Teen USA Caliegh Shade.

Reigning Miss Delaware 2017 Chelsea Bruce journeyed from upstate Delaware to participate in the parade. She was judged the Most Patriotic Beauty Queen winner by judges.

Bagpipes resonated along the parade route as piped by members of the St. Andrew’s Legion Pipes & Drums, who traveled from Richmond, Va.

Among those who walked the parade route: Sussex County Council members Michael Vincent and Rob Arlett, State Sen. Bryant Richardson and Desert Storm veteran Robert Roth, who was accompanied by Price of Darkness, his faithful PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) Dog.

While serving with U.S. Air Force mortuary unit Mr. Roth was exposed to very trying circumstances during the war. He currently is the Delaware state development director for the National Desert Storm War Memorial.
