Crossroad pipe project requires closure of North Old State Road

ELLENDALE – Delaware’s Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is alerting motorists that North Old State Road between SR 16/Milton-Ellendale Highway and U.S. 113 near Ellendale will be closed at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 20.

The roadway is anticipated to be open by 3 p.m. on Friday, July 24, pending weather.

Crossroad pipe replacements are replacements of old deteriorated pipes that carry water from one side of the road to the other.

Most of the time, they are corrugated metal pipes that have rusted through and have holes in them. Once they get holes in them, the fill dirt that supports the road can be lost into the pipe. This can create a sink hole in the road and can actually cause the pipe to collapse if it is not replaced. Sometimes they carry streams and tax ditches, and sometimes it is just roadway drainage ditches. DelDOT replaces them with either reinforced concrete pipes or HDPE (or plastic) pipes.

Rain Dates:  Saturday, July 25 at 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28.

Detour northbound:  North Old State Road onto SR 16/Milton-Ellendale Highway to U.S. 113 to Fleatown Road and return to North Old State Road.

Reverse for southbound.
