5K event benefits scholarship in paramedic’s honor

LEWES – The Stephanie L. Callaway Memorial Giggle Medic 5K will be held this Saturday, Aug 15 at Irish Eyes Pub on Anglers Road in Lewes.

The event starts at 8:30 a.m.

Funds raised support a paramedic scholarship fund established in honor of Ms. Callaway, a Sussex County Emergency Medical Services paramedic who was killed while on duty in a tragic accident on Del. 24 in June of 2008.

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and the race begins promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Entry fee $30.

The great Irish Eyes post-race party follows the race with hamburgers, hot dogs, and Bloody Mary’s and beer for participants aged 21 and over.

The first 200 runners receive gender specific tee shirts.

Awards are for the top male and female runners, top three male and female in 10 year age groups; 9 and under through 70 and over, and top 3 male and female walkers.

Course is USATF certified with chip timing from Nova Timing System.

Parking is available at Beach One behind the Dairy Queen at the end of Savannah Road.

Parking is not permitted on Savannah Road or Anglers Road.

Sponsors of the event include Irish Eyes, Advocare, Delaware State EMS Association, and Sussex County Paramedic Association.
