Hudson reigns in GOP’s 4th District county council primary

SUSSEX COUNTY – Sussex County Council candidate Douglas Hudson, a decisive winner in Thursday’s Republican primary, has no plans to rest on his laurels.

Douglas Hudson

“I just want to stay humble, and we’ve got to get right back to work,” said Mr. Hudson, who topped fellow Republican George Parish in the 4th District primary. “You never want to take anything (for granted). You’ve got to work really hard, and we did. We worked very, very hard and long and it paid off.”

Mr. Hudson, a retired Delaware state trooper who is now a realtor, out-polled Mr. Parish 2,168 to 1,507.

Next up is the Nov. 6 General Election where he faces Democrat Paulette Rappa of Millsboro.

“Now, we’ve just got to get right back at it,” Mr. Hudson said.

Mr. Parish, a former Sussex County Clerk of the Peace, was gracious in defeat.

“I have called Mr. Douglas Hudson and congratulated him on the win, and I have told him I would be delighted to vote for him in the November General Election,” Mr. Parish said. “He will be an outstanding county councilman for Sussex County.”

George Parish

The District 4 winner in November will take the council seat held for more than three decades by Republican George Cole of Ocean View.

Mr. Cole, who followed his mother and father on council, is stepping down after 32 consecutive years on county council – the longest council tenure in Sussex County history.

Mr. Hudson currently serves on the Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission – a five-member, council-appointed body that reviews and gives consideration toward subdivision applications and other land-use requests.

Mr. Hudson was nominated by Mr. Cole and appointed to the commission in 2016.
