Frankford to fill council vacancy; town election looms Feb. 6

FRANKFORD – With three seats up election in early February, Frankford’s town council next week will hold a special meeting to fill another seat made vacant by a December 2015 resignation.

The special meeting, set for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Frankford Town Hall, is scheduled to fill the term of Elizabeth Carpenter, who resigned Dec. 10, 2015.

Interested citizens are asked to provide a letter of interest.

Ms. Carpenter was serving as council president at the time of her resignation.

Council seats currently held by Pam Davis, Marty Presley and Charles Shelton are up for election in Frankford’s 2016 election on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Voting is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Frankford Town Hall, located on Main Street next to the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company.

Candidates must file written notice with the town by the close of business (4:30 p.m.) on Wednesday, Jan. 13.

As spelled out in the town charter, an eligible candidate must:

  • be 18 years of age or older;
  • have resided in the town of Frankford for at least one year preceding the date of the election;
  • be a qualified voter;
  • not have a felony conviction.

Qualifications to vote in the town of Frankford election are that a person must:

  • be a U.S. citizen;
  • be at least 18 years of age;
  • have resided within the town’s corporate limits for at least 30 days prior to the election;
  • be registered to vote at Frankford Town Hall (voter registration deadline is Jan. 15).
